Train My Staff! Building Packaging Knowledge Across the Organization
The Challenge
A fast-growing client was hiring rapidly to keep up with demand. Many of the new team members came from traditional roles—customer service, HR, quality, and sales—and had little to no background in packaging. The client wanted an effective, in-person training program to give everyone a solid foundational understanding of flexible packaging.
Our Approach
We started with a Teams call with the client align on
-
Topics they wanted to concentrate on
-
Who and how many employees would receive training
-
Special topics they wanted covered
-
Timing and location of training sessions
Our Solution
Using the information from our calls, we designed a custom curriculum that covered:
-
Extrusion processes including cast, blown, and orientation
-
Key packaging materials (PET, PP, LDPE, Nylon, and more)
-
How converters turn film into finished packages including printing & lamination methods
-
Common package formats and their applications
-
The importance of barrier properties (oxygen, moisture, and gas)
-
Basic structure building and material selection
-
Review of the client’s specific films and structures
-
An introduction to sustainability in packaging
Because the group was limited to a maximum of 10 people per session for better interaction, we split the training into two separate 3-hour sessions. We also decided on an in-person training for greater effect.
Our sessions are intentionally hands-on and interactive. We encourage questions throughout rather than saving them for the end—this creates a much more engaging and practical learning experience. At the conclusion, we provided the client with the complete slide deck so they could use or reference the material for future internal training of new employees.
The Outcome
The training was very well received. Team members left with a much clearer understanding of packaging fundamentals and how their roles connect to the bigger picture.
The client was so pleased with the outcome that they’ve already brought us back for a follow-up deep-dive session focused on sustainability. This second training covered everything from source reduction strategies to compostable films, specifically tailored for their sales team.
