REDKIN FLASH LIFT POUCH

In 2017, Redken approached ProAmpac to design and develop a standup pouch to hold a new hair care product. This product combined two separate products. This pouch design required a barrier material that would contain a hair bleach and keep out moisture, survive multiple drop tests, and contain 1 and 2 lbs. of product in the same footprint. The reclosable closure would contain a pour spout and the cap would double as a measuring cup and would be easy for salon professionals to use. Whew! Thats a lot to design!

We undertook these design elements and over the next 6 months developed and tested the pouch you see here. The pouch went through multiple consumer tests to prove out the design and this led to multiple iterations to make sure the pouch was perfect for launch!

In late 2018, the product was launched to great fanfare in the market. Salon professionals loved the new package design and sales took off. The Dow Awards Committee said:

"L’Oréal and ProAmpac reimagined the REDKEN® Flash Lift Bonder Inside to minimize material use and maximize functionality." You can read more here.

In 2014, two markets were exploding: retail cannabis and laundry pods. Both markets sold products that required CRREO packaging. CRREO stands for Child Resistant Reclosable Easy Open. While many rigid CRREO packages existed, only one flexible pouch was on the market. This pouch was designed and patented in 1994 by Pactech Packaging. While this pouch was designed for medical and agricultural applications, it was very difficult and costly to manufacture. The market demanded a better solution.

In 2014, Pactech approached Reynolds Presto to developed a CRREO closure utilizing a slider. Reynolds-Presto was already in development on a CR slider and utilizing Pactech as a manufacturing test site, we were able to work together to bring the closure and pouch to the market in record time.

Utilizing the ChildGuard closure with a previously CR tested and approved laminate material, Pactech was able to pass child resistant testing under 16 CFR 1700.20 under the  Poison Prevention Packaging Act(PPPA). The pouch was then sold into the cannabis market in Colorado, Oregon, and California.

The pouch and slider closure design led to further sales in markets laundry pods, clinical drug studies, and agricultural chemicals.

The DuPont Innovation Awards Committee noted:

"This new technology will allow products that had been previously packaged in child-resistant boxes or bulky plastic containers to be packaged in flexible packaging." You can read more here.

The FPA Award Committee noted:

"This new flexible packaging solution opens market opportunities traditionally supplied by rigid packaging." You can read more here.
